Zevachim 115 – Good Morning Raboisai Asham Metzora Outside — Early and Shelo Lishmah The daf centers on a complex case combining three elements : 1. The korban is brought outside the Beis HaMikdash 2. The owner is mechusar zman (too early — e.g. a Metzora before completion) 3. The Kohen performs the avodah שֶׁלֹּא לִשְׁמָה (thinking it is a different korban) Core case: • A Metzora brings his Asham early • If offered lishmah (as an Asham): o It is invalid o And bringing it outside → patur • But if the Kohen thinks: o “This is an Olah ” o Then the korban continues as an Olah Result: Once it becomes a valid Olah in thought, offering it outside creates chiyuv . Everything hinges on machshavah . Why Does Shelo Lishmah Help? Paradox: Doing the “wrong” thing fixes it, doing the “right” thing ruins it. Explanation: • An Asham brought too early is invalid • But an Olah may be brought at any time • When the Kohen changes intent: o The korban switches category o It becomes fit for hakravah Thus: Outside + fit korban = liability Why Mention Asham — Not Chatas? Question: • The Beraisa speaks about Asham • Why not Chatas ? Answer: • According to Rabbi Eliezer : o Asham and Chatas are linked by hekesh • Mentioning Asham automatically includes Chatas Why choose Asham? It is the bigger chiddush — learned only through hekesh, not explicit pasuk. Mechusar Zman — Owner vs. Animal Two types of “too early”: 1. Owner - based : o Metzora / Nazir / Yoledes before completion 2. Animal - based : o Animal too young (less than 8 days) Rule: • If the korban is unfit today no matter what : o Offering outside → patur • Unless: o It is transformed via shelo lishmah into a korban that is fit today Backup Asham — The Key Chiddush Case: • A person designates two Ashamos (backup system) • One becomes extra Halacha: • The extra Asham can automatically become an Olah Therefore: • If that extra Asham is brought outside: o Even without explicit intent → chayav This explains cases where: Asham → Olah without conscious re - designation Edible Meat Is Not a Korban Clear rule: • Meat already permitted for human consumption : o Leftover Chatas o Leftover Shelamim • If placed on a Mizbeach outside: → patur Reason: Shechutei chutz applies only to hakravah , not eating - stage items. Middle Avodos Done Outside Acts such as: • יציקה (pouring oil) • בלילה (mixing) • פתיתה (breaking) • תנופה (waving) • הגשה (bringing to the corner) • סידור שולחן / מנורה If done outside: → patur Rule: Only final avodos (those that complete hakravah) generate liability. Who Did the Avodah Before the Mishkan? Machlokes: • One view: o Bechorim served until the Mishkan • Another view: o Kehunah began at Matan Torah Proofs: • Pesukim imply: o Bechorim were warned at Har Sinai • Counterproof: o Nadav & Avihu are called “Bekrovai” o Indicating Kohanim , not Bechorim Resolution: • The Torah was given in stages : o General rules at Sinai o Detailed procedures later (Ohel Moed) Was the Olah Skinned in the Midbar? Machlokes Tannaim: • Rabbi Yishmael : o Details were given later o No skinning initially • Rabbi Akiva : o All details given at Sinai o Skinning was done even then Both approaches fit the pesukim. Takeaway – Zevachim 115 • Machshavah can transform a korban’s status • An early Asham can become a valid Olah via shelo lishmah • Backup Ashamos automatically flip to Olah • Only final avodos create liability outside • Edible - stage items never do • Pre - Mishkan avodah depends on a major machlokes • Torah details were given either: o Gradually (Rabbi Yishmael) o Or fully at Sinai (Rabbi Akiva) לעילוי נשמת אמי מורתי רות בת הרב מנחם מנדל
