Zevachim 112 – Good Morning Raboisai Receiving the Blood — One Cup vs. Two Cups The Mishnah presents two core scenarios in קבלת הדם : • One cup ( כְּלִי שָׁרֵת אֶחָׁד ) • Two cups ( שְּנֵי כֵלִים ) This difference creates major nafka - minos when part of the avodah is done outside the Beis HaMikdash . One Cup – Inside Then Outside Case A • Zerikah done outside • Then Zerikah done inside Halacha : Chayav Reason: the blood was fully roi l’zerikah inside, so the outside act creates liability. Case B • Zerikah done inside • Then Zerikah done outside from the same cup Halacha : Chayav Reason: according to Rebbi Nechemiah , shiryayim (leftover blood) are themselves an avodah . Pouring them outside is chayav. Two Cups – The Critical Chiddush If blood was received in two separate cups : • Both inside → פטור (obvious, no chiddush) • Both outside → חייב (possibly twice, with separate awareness) Key case : • One cup sprinkled inside • Second cup sprinkled outside Halacha : Patur Why? Once zerikah was completed from cup A inside, cup B is considered nidcheh (pushed aside). It is not shiryayim , because it’s a different kli . Reverse Order – Outside First If: • Zerikah from one cup was done outside first • Then zerikah from the other cup inside Halacha : Chayav Reason: • At the moment of the outside zerikah, no valid zerikah had yet occurred • The blood was fully roi • The later inside zerikah gives kaparah , but does not erase the earlier issur of kareis Mashal – Two Chata’os, One Kaparah The Gemara compares this to a classic case: • A person designates a Chatas • It gets lost • He designates a second Chatas • Then the first one reappears Halacha: • Only one may be brought • The other becomes Chatas she’kiperu ba’aleha and must die Likewise here: • Once kaparah was achieved via one kli • The second is no longer part of the avodah Why This Fits Rebbi (Not Everyone) This Mishnah works specifically according to Rebbi : • Even if both animals (or blood portions) are present simultaneously, • One can still become “pushed aside” once kaparah is achieved with the other. Parah Adumah & Se’ir HaMishtale’ach The Mishnah lists korban - like acts performed outside by definition : • Parah Adumah • Se’ir HaMishtale’ach If slaughtered outside the Azarah: • Patur Why? • The issur of shechutei chutz applies only to items meant for inside Pesulim – Animals Unfit for the Mizbeach Examples: • נרבע / רובע • מוקצה / נעבד • מחיר כלב / אתנן • טרפה / יוצא דופן If offered outside: • Patur Because they were never fit for the Mizbeach. Rabbi Shimon’s Chiddush : • If the animal is temporarily unfit (e.g. age, time), • Since it will become fit later, • One is over a lav (but not kareis). Machusar Zman – Too Early Examples: • Yoledes before day 40 / 80 • Zav / Zavah before purification If: • Chatas / Asham offered outside → פטור • Olah / Shelamim offered outside → חייב (because they are nedavah and valid anytime) Meat, Leftovers, and Menachos • Basar Kodshim (meat already permitted to eat): o Offered outside → פטור • Shirayei Minchah , Omer leftovers , Lechem HaPanim leftovers : o פטור Why? • These are not acts of hakravah Middle Avodos Done Outside Acts such as: • יציקה (pouring oil) • בלילה (mixing) • תנופה (waving) • הגשה (bringing to the corner) • סידור שולחן / מנורה • קמיצה If done outside: • פטור These are avodos , but not ones that create kareis outside. Bamos – A Historical Overview The Mishnah reviews the timeline: • Midbar / Gilgal → Bamos mutar • Shiloh → Bamos assur (temporary) • Nov & Givon → Bamos mutar again • Yerushalayim → Bamos assur forever Eating rules shift accordingly: • Kodshei Kodashim → only Azarah • Kodshim Kalim → Machaneh Yisrael / wherever visible (depending on era) Big Bamah vs. Small Bamah Only on a Bamah Gedolah : • Semichah • Tzafon • Four - corner zerikah • Tenufah, Hagashah • Bigdei Kehunah • Kiyor washing On a Bamah Ketannah : • Many of these are not required Takeaway – Zevachim 112 • One kli vs. two kelim fundamentally changes liability • Shiryayim create chiyuv only when part of the same kli • Kaparah achieved once can push aside remaining blood • Only items fit for the Mizbeach create kareis outside • Temporary vs. permanent pesul matters (Rabbi Shimon) • Middle avodos do not create kareis • The issur of bamot evolves historically • Yerushalayim permanently ends private Mizbechos לעילוי נשמת אמי מורתי רות בת הרב מנחם מנדל
