Chullin 12 – Good Morning Raboisai Seeing the Shechita If you see the shechita from beginning to end You may eat from it Concern: • Maybe he did derasah (pressing instead of slicing) But since you saw the full process: • It is valid Three Cases The Gemara establishes three situations: • If you know he knows halacha No need to watch • If you know he does NOT know halacha Must watch entire shechita • If you do not know who he is We rely on: • רוב Most people who perform shechita know what they are doing Challenge – Found Shechted Animal Case: • You find a shechted animal We assume: • It is kosher Reason: • רוב שוחטין מומחין הן Difference – Watching vs Rov The Gemara answers: Case: • You know the person does not know halacha • You saw first siman done properly • You did NOT see the second Even then: • It is invalid Reason stated: • First siman may have been correct • Second siman may have had: o pause o pressure Case – Told Someone to Shecht • You tell someone to perform shechita • You return and find it done You may rely on: • חזקה (he did what you asked) Challenge – Terumah Case Case: • You tell someone to separate terumah • You return and see it done You may NOT rely on it Difference – Shechita vs Terumah Answer: • By shechita : If someone did it → assume he knows • By terumah : Even if someone else did it It is invalid without permission Case – Stolen Animals Shechted • Animals stolen and then shechted Machlokes: • One view → אסור • One view → מותר Clarification of the Machlokes The Gemara explains: • If found in the house Everyone agrees → מותר • If found in public garbage area Everyone agrees → אסור • Machlokes: Found in private garbage in the house Rebbi’s Statement Rebbi says: • “ נראה דברי …” Not deciding halacha Clarifying: • Which cases all agree on • Which case is disputed Cheresh, Shoteh, Katan • Cannot be relied on for shechita initially But if they did shechita: • If done properly It is valid Kavana in Shechita Case: • Knife thrown and cuts animal Shechita is valid Reason stated: • No requirement of kavana Back - and - Forth Cutting Question: • Does shechita require back - and - forth motion? Answer given: • Even without standard motion Can still be valid Child’s Intention (Machshava) Question: • Can we rely on a child’s intention? Discussion: • Action ( מעשה ) is valid • Speech/thought alone is not relied upon Case – Action Showing Intent Case: • Child moves korban from south to north Question: • Does this show valid intention? Remains unresolved Key Takeaways (English) • Seeing full shechita makes it valid • If unknown person → rely on majority • Known untrained person → must watch fully • First siman is not enough without seeing second • Shechita relies on presumption and majority • Terumah requires permission, unlike shechita • Found animal depends on location • No requirement of intention for shechita • Child’s action vs intention is discussed • Some cases remain unresolved Catch up, review, download previous Dafim & more: https://www.dafchazarah.co.uk Now available as an app (Apple, Google & Amazon): https://dafchazarah.co.uk/download Sponsor a day: https://dafchazarah.co.uk/sponsor To receive the daf summary daily join our group: https://chat.whatsapp.com/L4AiVVxQwYqLRh4RtMAlGE לעילוי נשמת אמי מורתי רות בת הרב מנחם מנדל
